Disappointing Products

Disappointing products ft Mac, Charlotte Tilbury, Too Faced
I'm not really a negative person but I find these disappointing product posts super helpful. Yes, we're all different but it's nice to read reviews from a variety of people and it's just as interesting hearing why people don't like different products - that way you can make your own mind up knowing both sides. I also feel like I can trust these posts, especially in the ever growing world of sponsored posts and #ads.

First up is the Mac Amber x9 palette (£30), I'm a massive Mac eyeshadow lover and I have 2 custom quads of my own. When I saw this range of palettes I was instantly drawn to it, the golden tones of the Amber palette are perfect for my blue eyes. However, when it arrived I was thoroughly disappointed, the pigmentation is rubbish! You need to apply lots of the shadow to even achieve a small amount of colour on the eye. The matte shades are slightly better but not brilliant and the glittery shades have such bad fall out that it just isn't worth using them. I wanted to love this but there are so many better, cheaper shadow palettes out there (you can see my review of the Makeup Geek eyeshadows here).

Keeping with the Mac theme is the Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks (£21), something which sold out very quickly. Like most bloggers I jumped on the band wagon and tried to order some, the shades I wanted were pretty much always unavailable so I waited a while and then took the plunge. I have two shades, one isn't too bad but the other is rubbish. The purple shade is called Oh Lady and applies nice and even, the colour lasts a long time but it is very drying. On the other hand the deep red is High Drama, the colour is gorgeous but it applies so streaky and uneven. It bleeds worse than any other lipstick I own, even with a lip liner. Every time I've tried to wear it, i've had to take it off before leaving the house.

Charlotte Tilbury very rarely disappoints but the Colour Chameleon eyeshadow pencil in Champagne Diamonds (£25) just isn't very good. The golden shade is recommended for blue eyes but it doesn't really do a lot. The pigmentation is rubbish, you really have to use a lot of product for even a tiny bit of pay off. I really hoped this would be the perfect champagney gold for my blue eyes but unfortunately I'm still on the look out. You can get much better eyeshadow pencils from the drug store in my opinion, definitely save your money.

Finally, my newest disappoint is the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (£19). This is a really sad one, I love love love what this mascara does to my lashes - they literally look incredible when I wear this but it ends up all over my face after about an hour. It smudges so so bad, people have actually asked if I've been crying when I wear this. I'm tempted to try the waterproof version but I'm worried it'll be the same :( if you've tried it please let me know as I really do love the look this gives.

  1. Oooooh, that's so strange about the Mac Palette! And what a disappointment about the mascara, I have heard such great thing about it and always see American Youtubers rave about it!

  2. I love the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara but never had an issue. Alot of the time though I do apply it first then apply another thin mascara on top like Benefit They're Real Mascara. Too Faced have also released a waterproof version of this mascara so maybe that one will work better? Definitely try pairing it with other mascara's and see if that helps :)

  5. I loved the look of the Mac palette but I'd heard a few people saying the pigmentation of the shadows really wasn't up to standard - bit of a shame!

  6. I feel exactly the same way about the Charlotte Tilbury Eye Pencil, the glitter also so chunky. I do love the shade Amber Hayes, but the lid pops off so easily, it made my dry out :(

    1. It's such a shame isn't it! I've heard a few people like Amber Hayes but I don't want to waste money if it's just the same xo
