Shellac Manicures || Worth It?!

DSCN2022 DSCN2023

Since aound November time i've been visiting my local hair salon fortnightly and having a shellac manicure. Shellac is basically a gel like polish that is applied and then put under a UV light for 2 minutes. There are a whole load of shades, my beautician uses CND-Shellac and the colours are just beautiful.

The whole process takes around 45 minutes from removing the previous polish, manicuring the nails, applying base, polish and top coat and then any details you want over the top. I've had plain colours, flowers, fairy lights (they looked amazing) and my most recent design is these candy stripes (above).

The main benefit i've found with Shellac is the improvement of my nails. They are thicker, stronger and in 100% better condition. Over Christmas, I couldn't fit in for my fortnightly appointment so I had to wait a month and my nails were chipped, ridged and broken. The qualities in the polish just boost the growth and condition of my normal nails.

I pay £18 each time which I think is reasonable, the polish lasts for around 2 weeks and the whole experience is so relaxing. I go with my mum and we have such a good time. If you're local in Hull, the salon is called Boutique down Newland Avenue. We're now booked up fortnightly until May to avoid missing an appointment, that's an indication to how popular Shellac Manicures are.

Soap and Glory Perfect Ten Palette || Review

Soap and Glory Perfect Ten Palette Soap and Glory Perfect Ten Palette Soap and Glory Perfect Ten Palette
Soap and Glory Perfect Ten Eyeshadow Palette - £10

An Urban Decay Naked Palette dupe for less then £10, hell yes! Let me introduce to you the Perfect Ten eyeshadow palette from Soap & Glory (i've just checked online and I don't think it's available anymore, apologies fellow beauty lovers). It's pretty clear from the picture that this is a dupe for the original Naked palette, the colour range is near on identical starting with a matt white highlight shade, vanilla and finishing with a shimmer black shade, smokin'.

The colours in between are again very same, Gold Coast is my favourite shade from the palette which is similar to Half Baked a kind of coopery gold colour. I also love Aubersheen and Sunset, again i'd say these shades are similar to Sidecar and Copper. The brush is a bit of a waste, I haven't even bothered trying it. I like a more dense eye brush so I know that this isn't for me.

The pigmentation of these is pretty good, not as good as Urban Decay but for £10 you don't really expect it to be. They are creamy blendable and last for a few hours when used with an eyelid primer. I find myself using this on 'work days' rather than my Naked palette which I like to save for 'best'!

Mac Haul

DSCN2000 DSCN2001 DSCN2003

Oops, it happened again! I accidently went on the MAC website and somehow three days later, these beauties arrived at my door (minus the YSL Tint-In Oil). First lets start with my explanation of why I was on the site in the first place.

Miley Cyrus' collab with MAC had just been realised and I wanted a little nosey, I decided just to get the lipstick Viva Glam Miley Cyrus, it's a beautiful bright pink colour, not too dissimilar to Viva Glam Nicki. Another lipstick which landed in my basket was Faux which I've been lusting after for a while. Similar to Velvet Teddy (yes, i'm lucky enough to own it!) if slightly more pink toned, this will look perfect teamed with the new eyeshadows,

Finally, from MAC itself I bought the Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15. I have lots of love for my Nars Creamy Concealer but i'm having a bit of a tough time with my skin at the moment and this seems to be deemed some kind of wonder product. I tried it this morning and i'm very impressed. I then headed to Debenhams yesterday because I had a £5 off vouched. I picked up 2 shadows, Mythology and Twinks I'm loving copper shadows so much recently and these two together create the perfect smokey, copper eye.

I thought i'd add in the YSL Tint-In Oil because I bought it yesterday with my Boots points and it's just beautiful. There will be a full review coming ASAP, I bought the shade 6 Papa Don't Peach which is a gorgeous pink colour which adapts to your lips.

Why Does Foundation Oxidise?

Estee Lauder Double Wear

So just recently i've really noticed a difference in my foundation and the way it changes throughout the day. I've been a bit of a 'floozy' when it comes to foundations and have flitted between a few popular ones, Nars Sheer Glow and Estee Lauder Double Wear mainly. Both foundations I love, and both times I was colour matched, made over and then left the shop pleased with the results. However, over the last couple of months i've noticed my foundation oxidising and leaving me looking like i've gone a little 'cray cray' with my makeup bag.

Foundation oxidising is basically were the shade turns darker (often orangey) after a few hours of wear. It does this because of a bad combination of oils and PH levels from either the foundation or skin. Some of the main reasons are humid weather or oily skin, neither of which i'm prone to although one website suggests it could be because I have 'acidic skin'; sounds nasty!

Whilst doing some proper scientific research I found a website that suggests how to stop foundation oxidising, again I do most of them already; using a primer, blotting, using powder etc. The only simple one I haven't tried is using a powder foundation, hello i'm a full coverage kind of gal, powder surely can't be the way forward? There is also a home made toner remedy that will add some alkaline back into my skin, it involves cider so surely it's a winner?!

So this post hopefully might help a few of you who are thinking/experiencing the same kind of thing but it's also a post to ask for some help. If you have experienced oxidising foundation, what did you do about it? What powder foundations do you recommend? Finally, do you have any tips for dealing with it?

Balayage Hair Care Routine

Balayage Hair care routine
Recently I paid a long over due visit to the hairdressers and had a little change up of my regular hair. I decided to go for a 'smudge' which after a bit of research is what they call Balayage. Basically I am brunette on the top and then blonde has been smuged through the mid lengths and ends of my hair, similar to ombre but not as drastic. Because of this, i've had to step up my hair care routine.

First up, shampoo and conditioner. I asked on twitter what you guys recommended and the Aussie Colour Mate range came out on top. I picked up the shampoo, conditioner and the Miracle Recharge Leave In Spray to revitalise dull coloured hair (just for my blonde sections). A hair mask is also a must to make sure my ends don't dry out and become frizzy, I picked up the Charles Worthington 60 second colour boosting mask. I never have time for a mask that takes hours to work so I picked this up for the ease of it. I love the Salon at Home range so I also picked up the Volume and Boost 3D creme to add some volume to my roots.

I get awfully frizzy hair after it's been washed and tonnes of fly aways so I decided to try the Frizz Ease Perfect Polish Finishing Serum and I love it! I also picked up the Provoke Touch of Silver shampoo to use very sparingly just on the ends of my hair to stop them turning brassy. Finally I delved into the S Factor products (FYI they smell insane!) and I picked up the Heat Defence Spray and the Smoothing Lusterizer - both of which I bloody love.

Origins Mask Trio Gift Set || Review

Origins Mask Trio Gift Set Origins Mask Trio Gift Set Origins Mask Trio Gift Set

Origins Face Mask Trio - Clear Improvements, Out of Trouble and Drink Up-Intensive

I've been a fan of Origins for a while and i've tried a few of their products, mainly their Ginzing range but i've only ever tried one of their face masks. My boyfriend saw this before Christmas and knew that i'd love it, he wasn't wrong. I love these sets as you can try minis of the products before you pay £££ for them. This gift set is particularly good because the masks are all perfect for my skin type!

Origins Clear Improvements:
This mask is perfect for a quick refresh of the pores and to get rid of any black heads. I apply a layer of this over my whole face and leave it to dry. I usually do this on a Sunday night and leave it on whilst a watch a couple of Youtube videos (about 20-30 minutes) this seems a good amount of time. The product dries thoroughly and doesn't start to sting etc. This is one of the best clay masks i've tried and trust me, I've tried a few!

Origins Out of Trouble:
This is the mask I have the full size of but i'm nearly running out so this came at the perfect time. I love how this feels on the skin, it's a wet mask that dries hard and I really feel like you can feel it working. Sometimes, I wake up and my skin looks worse but that's because it's pulling out all the toxins in your skin. It smells pretty menthol which can sting the face, especially if you use it in the bath I find. I leave this on for around 10/15 minutes and the jobs a good 'un.

Origins Drink Up-Intensive:
I'm currently sat with this on my face as I write and the smell is so delicious. It smells so refreshing and fruity, which makes me think that it's doing good things to my skin. I've tried wearing this over night and i'm really pleased with the results. Because of the cold weather, my skin has been pretty dry but this has injected some life and moisture into my skin (thank the lord). You also use the teeniest amount so this is going to last for so long.

Confessions of a Beauty Blogger || TAG

I'm never one to miss out on a good old tag post so I was thankful when Kate tagged me in her post. I think tag posts are perfect for when you're lacking inspiration for posts etc.

1. How many hours a week do you spend planning/writing/uploading posts?
I used to spend forever blogging when I was a student. Definitely 5/6 hours a week but since i've become a teacher I tend to write my posts in the holidays so i'm ready for the half term. The whole process takes about 3 hours for around 5/6 posts i'd say.

2. Are you a spender or a saver?
Spender for sure. Whenever I have money, gift cards etc I have to spend them asap. I currently have £26 worth of Boots points and I can't wait to spend them. I also think payday is the greatest day ever and makes a thousands plans so it's all gone in the first week. Good plan!

3. When is it easiest for you to write your posts?
The school holidays, I've been putting a day aside to write enough posts for the half term and that's been working well so far. If I have spare time I like to do it once i've finished all my work so I know i'll enjoy 'laptop time'.
4. What makes writing posts comfortable for you?
Writing about things I enjoy. I think i'd still be blogging if I had 2 followers, I just love talking about things that interest me. I'm pleased with how my audience has grown and that gives me confidence to continue and try different things etc.
5. What’s your worst make up/hair habit?
Not washing my makeup brushes enough. It's just such a long chore and I hate having cold hands. I'm definitely going to start doing it more though, promise!

6. What’s one quote you wish the world would live by?
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass it's about learning to dance in the rain. Amen!

7. How long do you spend getting ready everyday?
For work about 20 minutes and at the weekend, probably about 40 minutes. I love playing with makeup so when i'm in that mood I could spend all day doing it.

8. What’s your favourite post on your blog?
Er, there's lots I really like. I'm proud of them all I think.

9. Who is a beauty blogger that you think deserves more subscribers that they have?
I think you shouldn't judge a beauty blogger on their subscribers but I love Fayes Fix and Sian Shutterbug.
10. What’s one thing you’re excited about in the coming year?
For mine, my boyfriends and my mums birthday's we're going to GoApe and staying in a log cabin (with a hot tub) for the weekend in March. I'm so excited, it's going to be amazing. Especially because my mum is terrified of heights.

11. What’s been your favourite blogging moment?
Going to meet ups and meeting some amazing people. I've kept in touch with some of the lovely blogging girls and i've got some brilliant memories with them.

12. How long does it take to prep for a post?
If everything is going a okay - lighting, products etc then there's hardly any prep. I take the photos, edit them, write and then post. But sometimes posts involve specific pictures, products etc and that can take a while to sort.

13. Are you wearing jeans/skirt right now or are you wearing pajama bottoms?
Jogging bottoms, today is PE at school so I love chilling in my joggers for the afternoon.

14. What are you most proud of in your life?
I'm most proud of graduating uni and teaching 29 9 year olds at the age of 21. I worked hard to get where I am and i'm super proud I never gave up.

Thanks for tagging me Kate, I hope you like my answers. I tag all the lovely bloggers who want to do this post, lets go cray.

Charlotte Tilbury The Dolce Vita || Review

DSCN1910 DSCN1911 DSCN1914 DSCN1918

The Boxing Day 'sales' didn't really do it for me...apart from 10% off beauty at Selfridges. That really sucked me in, 10% off Charlotte Tilbury and Tom Ford to name a few. Of course i'm there!

This absolute beauty was an eye watering £153 including pp (FYI Selfridges, paying for postage when you've spent that much is ridic) but it really is a gorgeous gift set. The stunning makeup bag is the perfect size for these goodies and then your foundation, powder and brushes. The quote is something we can all relate to and I genuinely feel empowered when I use this (maybe a little OTT).

I'll start with eyes because that's the main reason I bought this. The Dolce Vita palette has been on my wishlist for quite some time. The colours are just beautiful, the champagne shade is perfect for an everyday, all over look. The reddy/brown gives some deep definition and the browny/gold gives some sexy smoky eye vibes. The red/gold glitter is the perfect eye catching shade to dab in the middle of the lid.

Moving on we have the Feline Flick Eyeliner which makes winged eyeliner a dream, I instagramed a picture of me wearing this so you can check it out here. The liner stays on all day and doesn't transfer onto the lid towards the end of the night. The Full Fat Lashes Mascara  is another fave, it separates and volumises all at the same time whilst still looking natural (ish). The tapered end is brilliant for using on the bottom lashes, you simply wiggle then wand on the lashes and there you go!

The Blusher in Ecstasy is delicious. The colours compliment each other so nicely, I use the outer shade in a sweeping motion on the fattest part of my cheeks and then 'pop' my brush in the middle colour and dab it on the apples.

Finally, we have lips! I've wanted the Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk forever, i've seen so many people rave about this. The colour is so natural, it blends into your lips and adds some extra definition giving you that 'Kylie Jenner' style. To go with this is the Lipstick in Penelope Pink which is the perfect nude. It goes with the eyeshadow look so well. To finish off the whole look is the Liplustre in Seduction a perfect nude and glossy finish.
