Battle Of The Brow Palettes: REVIEW

DSCF2471

If you've been reading my blog for a while now, you may know about my brow addiction. I'm always on the look out for new brow palettes, pencils or shadows that I can use to get the best out of my brows. I have quite dark hair, so it's fair to say my brows are quite obvious and somewhat 'bushy'. Now, i'm okay with this but I definitely need to tame them a little before going out in public and these three little palettes definitely come in handy. I'm going to review each one and let you know which I think is the best.

The Mua Brow Kit retails for £3.50 so it's a pretty budget option but that's not to say it's budget quality. The kit comes with three shades; a dark brown, a light brown and a peachy brown. It also comes with a white gel, which goes on clear to set the brows. I use the darkest brown shade to outline the shape and then the lighter shade to fill in any sparse parts. This gives them a really natural finish and doesn't make them look to 'done'. The peach shade is a gorgeous highlight shade as it's very subtle and the brow gel works really well to hold them in place and doesn't look sticky or overloaded.

The packaging is pretty basic, but the mirror comes in really handy when you're rushing or travelling. The lid is also magnetic so good for moving around with. You also get a little brush with it but I think it holds too much product and creates a really obvious finish. Overall, I really like this product and for the price you can't go wrong.

Next is the HD Brow palette in the shade Foxy, this is the most expensive of the three palettes; retailing at £19.96. I received this in the Latest in Beauty box which I reviewed here and I was so excited to try it. This palette has four shades, Nude, Carbon, Warm Brown and Dark Brown which makes it versatile for all brunettes. The one issue I have with this palette is how powdery it is, the product gets everywhere. But I do love that this can double as an eyeshadow palette too. The nude shade is a good highlight or base colour, carbon is a dark brown/black shade perfect for outlining, the warm brown colour doesn't really match my brows but it's lovely for some shadow definition. Finally the dark brown colour is what I use to fill them in.

Again, the packaging is quite simple but I think it makes it look quite expensive. The mirror is also a really good size too. The brush again, is a bit redundant but would be useful if you ever forgot your eyebrow brush. I really love that this can double up as an eyeshadow palette to so for the money this is worth it but the powdery-ness of it really lets it down.

Finally, the last and newest palette to review comes from Elf.  I have got the shade medium and it's a really good match for my dark brows. Unlike the other two palettes, this only has two shades. The first is a dark brown wax which I use again, to outline the brows. I love using this as it is just enough product to make a very subtle different. The other shade is a light brown powder shade which is similar to Mac Wedge and again I use this shade to fill in the front of my brows and any sparse areas.

The packaging is very similar to the others, but this one is considerably smaller which makes it easier to travel with. The mirror is super small though which is the only downside. But if that's the only negative of a £3.75 eyebrow palette then I rest my case.

Overall I would say that all three palettes are good and I enjoy using them all. However my favourite is definitely the Elf Eyebrow Kit. It's just really simple and easy to use and such a bargain price. The HD Brows palette is also really nice but I just don't like the powderness of the shades. Finally I love that the Mua palette includes a setting gel, something which the other palettes miss and again for the price you can't complain.

Have you tried any of these palettes? Which is your favourite?

  8. I have an HD Brow kit, MUA kit and Elf eye brow kit and I have to say at the moment I really go for my Elf brow kit. I have it in Ash which is the only brow kit I have ever found which is ideal for blonde brows.
